Description
An interesting view of a steel structure that is part of the Outlet Gate at Sutherland Reservoir State Recreation Area a couple of miles south of Sutherland, Nebraska.
Things I like about this photograph is the steel that is used, such as the H-Beam that runs vertical and Channel Irons that run horizontal.
I like the way the steel was joined together, they used rivets in lieu of bolts and nuts. These rivets are called Hot Rivets. To install the rivet, the Ironworkers heat the cold rolled steel to a cherry red using a rosebud attachment to an acetylene torch, then they have a special hydraulic tool on each side that pounds them into the domed shape. This makes a very reliable joint when compared to bolts and nuts.
I like the way the light is hitting the structure creating the shadows and different shades to each shadow based on the different positions of the steel structure.
A solid work-of-art.
