Description
On this brisk May morning I enjoyed watching a Killdeer with her two newly hatched chicks. The sun was barely above the horizon shedding warm golden light across the plains. However, the chicks needed some additional warmth.
In this photograph, the mother Killdeer has her feathers all fluffed out with one chick under each wing. The chicks would go out exploring the vicinity, but after a minute or so they would head back to the mom for a quick warm up. The chicks entered the warm feathers from the front and would stay there for a minute or so and exit out the backdoor for more exploration.
I made this photograph in Bailey Yard in North Platte, Nebraska. Bailey Yard is owned by Union Pacific Railroad and is the world’s largest railroad classification yard.
This photograph has had an artistic filter applied to give it qualities unique to the art of painting.
