Description
Cosmic Critter is a light painted photograph that was the result of accidentally pressing the shutter button while doing night photography. My camera was in manual mode with a 20-second exposure, and while putting the camera back on the tripod I touched the area where the shutter button is located. Once I heard the shutter open, I immediately started moving the camera in multiple directions for the remainder of the long exposure hoping to create something unique.
I was doing a photoshoot on the beach of Lake McConaughy about 12 miles north of Ogallala, Nebraska. On that particular night I was working before the moonrise. The moon was 31% waxing and would rise around midnight. I had my 2003 Hummer H2 on the beach with the headlamps and running lights illuminated (the white, amber and red-orange colors) with a portable power supply and a 19" LED ring light on the opposite side of the vehicle with the ring light illuminating some distant trees (the blue colors). Naturally in November, the trees have lost their leaves, and when properly illuminated the bare branches make an interesting subject against the dark star-filled skies.
This photograph is part of The Cosmic Collection by Bill Kesler Photography.
