Artist's Description
UP 1982 is seen in Bailey Yard (North Platte, NE) waiting to be placed on an outbound train. This locomotive is one of several special locomotives that Union Pacific has in their massive fleet. UP 1982 is known as a heritage unit and that it has a special paint scheme. You see, in 1982, Union Pacific acquired Missouri Pacific Lines in a merger and to honor Missouri Pacific, they had this one and only one unit painted with both Union Pacific markings and the Missouri Pacific logo.
Union Pacific has six (6) of these heritage units honoring six (6) different railroads that they acquired in the 1980s through 1996. These heritage units pull freight just like any other unit, you may see them as a lead unit, or a trail unit or even as a distributive power unit. They all have their own unique paint scheme and always draw a crowd. And they route them through all twenty-three (23) states that Union Pacific serves.

About Bill Kesler
Interested in photography since my high school years in the late 60’s, I finally purchased a Nikon SLR in the late 70’s and wasn’t long until I started selling my work. I am sure that I will stay very active with my photography. Photography has blessed me in so many ways, and I continue to be in awe of God’s wonderful work with this beautiful world we live in. In 1967 country music’s Song of the Year was “It’s Such A Pretty World Today”, performed by the...
