On this May morning, the brisk early morning light was wonderful, the birds were singing - it was so pleasant.

I had been photographing a squirrel in this tree and didn’t even see this female Yellow-Shafted Northern Flicker. But when I did, I noticed that she wasn’t perched like one would expect and she really seemed to be in an odd position. As I watched her and repositioned my tripod, she didn’t move, other than moving her head just a little every now and then.

As you can see, her wings are just barely spread, was she doing this to let the warm sunshine warm her wings and body, I wondered?

Then I saw it, the heart shape that was formed from some spots on the white feathers that would not be visible if she had her wings all the way against her body. It was a message. It was The Message. A message from God that He loves me. What a blessing to see. And then she tilted her head skyward indicating that it was from above. I grabbed the shot while rejoicing in my heart.
