Artist's Description
Sir Longbeard as I called this tom turkey, well aware of my presence, yet he hears the soft purring and clucking sounds of a nearby hen. Purring is a sign of hen contentment that drives a tom WILD!!!
Sir Longbeard is seen here wanting to fan his feathers to impress the hen. The longbeard on a male turkey is a sign of a strong surviving bird, the long red snood lays to one side of his beak. Other things that impress a hen is the wattle or dewlap as some like to call it, the fleshy tissue below the head, and the caruncle, the red knobby fleshy stuff on the neck and above the longbeard.
Photograph taken near the North Platte River just north of North Platte, Nebraska.

About Bill Kesler
Interested in photography since my high school years in the late 60’s, I finally purchased a Nikon SLR in the late 70’s and wasn’t long until I started selling my work. I am sure that I will stay very active with my photography. Photography has blessed me in so many ways, and I continue to be in awe of God’s wonderful work with this beautiful world we live in. In 1967 country music’s Song of the Year was “It’s Such A Pretty World Today”, performed by the...
