Artist's Description

The beautiful red-headed woodpecker with his vibrant red head and black-and-white body really stand out in a tree where they are searching for insects, or flying across the sky.

I made this photograph south of Sutherland, Nebraska. I enjoy bird photography in the early morning light when the blue sky is a gorgeous backdrop. I really like the bark on the tree, giving great texture to the photograph. I would also like to point out that this morning was somewhat windy and you can see signs of this in the feathers on the body, not leaving them too messed up nor too perfect.

Interested in photography since my high school years in the late 60’s, I finally purchased a Nikon SLR in the late 70’s and wasn’t long until I started selling my work. In 1970 I began my electrical career and continued to mix photography into my daily travels.
