It's late in the afternoon on a late September day and the light is fading fast. I spot a couple of bucks making their way through some tall dried grass, I know I'll only get a couple of shots before the light is gone. Patience paid off (again)!
This young mule deer buck is a beauty with an impressive rack, what is known as a 4 X 5 set of antlers - four points on one antler and five points on the other antler. I would really like to schedule another photo shoot with him in a couple of years, but the chances of that are slim.
I made this photograph while visiting the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve near Alamosa, Colorado in September 2014.
