Description
If you have ever been to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, you are probably well aware of Medano Creek.
The water comes from snow melt from the distance mountains in the background.
In the spring through the summer months, there is more flow and more depth to the creek.
I made this photograph on September 30, 2014 and the depth was only an inch or two. From a photographers perspective, the low flow and low depth allows us to see and appreciate the ripples in the sand. Naturally for the many visitors that enjoy water related activities, they appreciate the higher flow and deeper depth.
Medano Creek is close to 8,400-feet above sea level and the distant mountains are most likely above the 10,000-feet mark and in late September, you can see that they have had snow in the higher elevation.
This photograph has had an artistic filter applied to give it qualities unique to the art of painting.
