Natural illumination from a full moon allows this long exposure to bring out the details in the chalk formations at Monument Rocks. I took sixty-seven (67) long exposures and stacked them in the post-processing to form the star trails. This photograph is also available in black-and-white in my gallery titled Astrophotography.
People say Kansas is flat. No argument here. Monument Rocks has been named one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas and again, no argument here. Monument Rocks was the first named U.S. National Natural Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior back in 1968. Also known as Chalk Pyramids, these unique formations reach a height of 70 ft. and include such formations as buttes and arches. Rich in fossils, they were formed an estimated 80 million years ago.

Interested in photography since my high school years in the late 60’s, I finally purchased a Nikon SLR in the late 70’s and wasn’t long until I started selling my work. In 1970 I began my electrical career and continued to mix photography into my daily travels.
